Two candidacies are vying for the general secretary position of the PSOE in San Vicente. The first, led by María Jesús Montero, the current Secretary of Organisation of the party in San Vicente, has the backing of the current general secretary of the socialist municipal group, Asun París. The other candidacy is led by the current socialist councillor of the town hall: Eugenio Toledo.
Thus, María Jesús Moreno would assume the general secretary of the party in the locality, a position previously held by Asun París, who will maintain "relevant positions" in this new executive proposal, according to socialist sources detailed to this newspaper.
Next Sunday, during the Extraordinary Assembly, the person who will lead the party in San Vicente will be announced, aiming to reclaim the mayoralty that was taken by the popular Pachi Pascual.
María Jesús Moreno
María Jesús Moreno has been a member of the Socialist Party since 1986, the same year she joined the Socialist Youth. In the youth organisation, she held various organisational roles at local, regional, and autonomous levels, and during her studies at the University of Alicante, she was a student representative in different university bodies.
During the 2018-2022 period, she was the Secretary of Equality of the Municipal Executive Commission of San Vicente. From 2022 to the present, she combines her role as Secretary of Organisation with being a member of the Provincial Committee of the PSPV-PSOE.
Eugenio Toledo
Early on Thursday, the current socialist councillor in the San Vicente Town Hall, Eugenio Toledo, announced his candidacy for the general secretary of the local group.
Under the slogan "A New Time, A Better Future," the councillor aims to bring some common sense to the current internal division within the PSOE of San Vicente del Raspeig.
As Todo Alicante has learned, last Wednesday night, Toledo offered María Jesús Moreno an agreement to present a joint candidacy that would include some of the councillors involved in the controversial parallel WhatsApp group, a proposal that Moreno rejected.
