Firefighters have rescued an injured man from a car accident on the A-31 highway near Monforte del Cid. Although the 52-year-old man was not trapped inside the vehicle, he required a safe extraction due to the injuries sustained in the accident, according to sources from the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB).
After removing him from the car, the emergency personnel had to immobilize him on a stretcher "to prevent further injury and ensure his safety due to the risk of the car catching fire." Once stabilized, the man was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Alicante General Hospital.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, when the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (Cicu) received a report of a car accident on the A-31 at kilometer 223. A Basic Life Support unit and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene, along with firefighters from the Elche and Elda stations to secure the vehicle and extricate the driver.
After rescuing the injured man, the air ambulance medical team treated him for multiple injuries and evacuated him to Alicante General Hospital. The consortium used two command units, two heavy urban pumps, and two rescue vans during the extrication process. Additionally, two sergeants, two corporals, and eight firefighters from the Elda and Elche stations participated in the operation.
