Dreamcatchers were distributed to children hospitalised in the maternal and child ward of Dénia Hospital to celebrate Hospitalised Children's Day. These gifts were crafted over recent weeks in the Hospital Classroom by children who have been admitted to the ward.
The dreamcatchers, which hold cultural and symbolic value as objects of protection and channels of good wishes, were distributed in the morning to the rooms of paediatric patients and to the families of newborns, according to the Health Department.
The aim is to establish a symbolic link between children who have recently experienced hospitalisation and those currently undergoing it.
Additionally, a mural has been set up in one of the common areas of the ward, also created by the hospitalised children, depicting two child figures in pyjamas. Flowers and paper butterflies have been placed next to the mural, on which family members and healthcare staff have written words and phrases with messages of encouragement and support.
The messages included in the mural were collected over several days leading up to the event. Healthcare staff encouraged families to participate by writing thoughts that could have a positive effect on other hospitalised children. Several messages expressed wishes for a speedy recovery, the importance of staying united, or the strength of small gestures during the hospitalisation process.
Home and Hospital Educational Support Programme
The Hospital Classroom at Dénia Hospital is part of the home and hospital educational support programme promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana's Department of Education. Its aim is to ensure the educational continuity of hospitalised children and contribute to their well-being through pedagogical and recreational activities adapted to their clinical situation.
During the current school year, the Hospital Classroom has conducted workshops on artistic expression, shared reading sessions, individualised curricular support, and commemorative activities linked to various dates in the school calendar.
