Donating blood in Alicante comes with a reward. Participants in the blood donation marathon on June 9 at MARQ will enter a draw for two double tickets per day in the VIP zone to enjoy the mascletà on June 22, 23, and 24. Additionally, all donors will receive tickets to visit the Alicante museum hosting the marathon.

This marks the seventh edition of this initiative, organized by the Transfusion Centre of the Valencian Community (CTCV) and the ASISA delegation in Alicante, with support and collaboration from the Provincial Council and the City Council of Alicante. Donations can be made continuously from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM.

In the previous seven editions, a total of 2,987 donations have been recorded, of which 402 were from first-time donors. This year, donors will also have the opportunity to contribute through plasma donations.

Plasma Use

Plasma is used for transfusions in cases of severe accidents or major burns, but it is also employed to produce medicines that can only be derived from human plasma. These medicines allow the treatment of various diseases such as hemophilia and other coagulation disorders (which cause severe bleeding), autoimmune diseases (where the patient creates antibodies against their own tissues), or congenital immune deficiencies (which predispose individuals to severe infections).

Dr. Paula Giménez, councillor of Lavinia-ASISA and delegate in Alicante, highlights that "ASISA is promoting this marathon for the eighth consecutive year. We are proud to collaborate in this effort where the true protagonists are the people who donate their blood at MARQ every year in a spirit of solidarity, voluntarism, and altruism."

The President of the Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, "essential to meet the blood demand of hospitals in our province," while also calling for public generosity, "because donation is a key element for the treatment, recovery, and life of many patients."

Dr. Mabel Ortiz de Salazar, head of the CTCV Service in Alicante, emphasized that "the values of solidarity, responsibility, and generosity that characterize our donors bring hope to all those who need blood to continue living."
