No, no... This is not a sequel to The Snow Society, that fantastic film depicting the heroic adventure of a handful of survivors of an air disaster. Rather, the title suggests quite the opposite: the indifference of a large part of our society, which seems to have resigned from its ability to react to the increasing simulations, tricks, and artifices of current politics.

In the wake of the DANA and its deadly trail of misfortune, the slogan 'only the people save the people' has gained popularity on social media. Many have criticized this slogan for disregarding the efforts made by public institutions to mitigate the effects of such a calamity, but we cannot deny that a certain 'thermal sensation of abandonment' has spread among the citizens, as politicians become embroiled and absorbed in their disputes to claim the trophy for the most credible version.

This calamity has brought another mire, mixed with sadness and indignation, which is the distrust in those who govern us, which was already considerable. And with it, we have lost the critical capacity to discern the truth. For a moment, a déjà vu transported me back to the times of the pandemic, when many of us left a piece of our lives to build narratives based on data and evidence. Information saves lives, we said, and how true it is! It will also do so this time and, moreover, will allow us to identify oversights and negligence. Especially if we are capable of protecting our anti-fraud and transparency agencies, some of which have disappeared or seen their independence eroded due to questionable regulatory changes or the appointment of some of their leaders without suitability or competence. We even have a commissioner of 'unknown prestige' charged with public disorder, and it has gone almost unnoticed.

Let's see how we clean up this mess while society sleeps...
