The programme 'Informe' by À Punt delves into how the scam of the century was orchestrated in Benidorm. The documentary, set to air this Monday, June 16 at 22:45, will reveal how the biggest real estate scam of the 1980s was organised, when a group of men sold the only remaining plot on the beachfront of Poniente. They were not the owners, and the deal was worth around 400 million pesetas.

The Valencian public broadcaster airs a series of four documentaries every Monday, bringing some episodes of our recent history closer to the viewer. This time, 'Informe' delves into a story with all the ingredients of the greatest frauds. Amidst a booming Benidorm due to tourism, construction became a business opportunity and the chance to commit the scam of the century.

The seventy-minute documentary narrates how this perfect real estate fraud was planned, which, despite its million-dollar scale, had little impact at the time. Now, four decades later, 'Informe' revisits the witnesses of the largest urban scam in the Valencian Community, including the mastermind of the operation, the Dutchman.

This is the first interview the fraudster has given on television, and it is revealing. The key figure of the scam explains, in detail, how they managed to sell the best plot without owning it. A narrative with shades of a thriller, but also of comedy.

The work, which follows the story of Elisa Ferrer's book 'The Dutchman', is penned by screenwriters Carlos Aimeur, Adrià Espí, and Gabi Ochoa. 'Informe', which received the award for best documentary series at the Berlanga Awards 2023 for its first season, is directed by Gabi Ochoa and Pau Martínez.

Chapters of the 'Informe' programme

The first episode 'El Patronat de Protecció a la Dona' of this second season of 'Informe' and the four documentaries of the first season are now available on demand on the À Punt website. Users will find a documentary about the rebellious spirit of a transgressive falla from the seventies in the chapter titled 'La revolució King Kong'; the story of the Nazis who lived hidden in the Marina Alta in 'Dénia, refuge of Nazis'; the possible continuation of activity of the Altos Hornos de Sagunto in 'Informe Kawasaki'; and 'La brigada 26', the documentary that tells the story of the night police unit that took over the night with unacceptable methods in a democratic state.
