Doctors Call for General Strike on June 13

Bajo el lema 'Save Healthcare' and in protest against the framework statute being prepared by the Government, the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) has called for a general strike across the country on June 13. Although initially the strike was scheduled for May 23, it was eventually postponed to this new date. Coinciding with this date, a rally will take place in Alicante in front of the Government Subdelegation, at Plaza de la Montañeta, at 12:30 PM.

The Alicante Medical Association (COMA) supports the call, considering that the current scenario demands a "strong response." They assert that the draft of the new Framework Statute presented by the Ministry is "clearly insufficient and does not address essential aspects that dignify the medical profession or improve the working conditions of the group."

They lament that the professional classification "continues to overlook the high qualification of doctors"; and that the working hours are "unmanageable, subject to 'care needs', which endangers the quality of our Healthcare Model, as well as the physical and mental health of doctors."

They also denounce the non-computation of on-call hours performed by doctors throughout their careers as effective working time for retirement purposes; a remuneration model that "does not reflect the level of responsibility nor the required training"; as well as the "lack of real measures to ensure continuous training and professional development."
