On Monday, the 28th, the feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer, and Tuesday, the 29th, funeral Masses will be held for the eternal rest of Pope Francis. Following the funeral Mass in the Vatican on Saturday, the 26th, the period known as 'novendiales' will commence, nine days during which Masses are traditionally celebrated for the deceased pontiff.
Therefore, in the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante, it has been agreed that, aside from the days and celebrations each parish or community wishes to establish, on Monday, the 28th of April at 7:30 PM at the Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás in Alicante and on Tuesday, the 29th at 7:30 PM, the respective Masses for the soul of Pope Francis will be celebrated. These celebrations will be presided over by the diocesan bishop, Monsignor José Ignacio Munilla.
In light of this moment of special ecclesial communion, the diocese invites the entire community to participate, "united in prayer and thanksgiving for the ministry of the Holy Father and his generous service to the universal Church."
They request that, as far as possible, "parish Masses offered for this same intention be celebrated after the diocesan Eucharist, to thus express the unity of the entire diocese around this celebration." The first Eucharist held in honour of the Holy Father took place this Wednesday at the Inmaculada school in Alicante, of the same order as the Supreme Pontiff.
