Alicante is set to completely renew the equipment used by the firefighters with the purchase of 290 fire-resistant suits, along with helmets, balaclavas, gloves, and other personal items. The Alicante City Council will spend over €900,000 on these new protections for the Fire Prevention and Extinction Service (Speis).

The contract includes the delivery of 250 structural suits to combat fires and another 40 for replacement in 2027. This set consists of two pieces: jacket and trousers. The suit is designed and manufactured so that, under foreseeable conditions of use, the wearer can perform risk activities normally while enjoying adequate protection. This Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is intended to protect the entire body of the user (except for the head, hands, and feet) in work exposed to heat, in fighting forest fires, and in environments with electrostatic charges.

The intervention suit will feature a chip or similar device integrated into both the jacket and trousers. This device will allow for the traceability of the entire life of the equipment, including materials used in its manufacture, user name, destination, size, rank, repair and washing history, etc., for each garment in the set.

This information will be accessible through a web platform, where, after a login page requiring user credentials, maintenance data can be accessed both at the equipment detail level and aggregated according to various criteria.

The Department of Security, led by Julio Calero, awarded the tender last April for the purchase of new specialised trucks for €2.7 million and two command vehicles, as well as for the renovation works of the Jesús González Soria station for €405,380.92. Similarly, the purchase of two additional all-terrain command vehicles for the SPEIS was recently awarded to MS Dealer Alicante S.A. with an offer of €124,329.53.

Calero highlighted that "we continue to make significant investments from the Department, as promised by the municipal government team at the start of this term, aimed at modernising the facilities and resources of municipal emergency and security services."
