Madrid's Half Marathon, held this Sunday through the streets of the Spanish capital, necessitated emergency medical intervention for two participants, aged 20 and 35, who suffered cardiac arrests during the event. Tragically, one of them lost his life, as reported by the event organisers.
One of the urgent medical interventions took place near Plaza de Cibeles. A Samur nurse, part of the event's medical team, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the affected 20-year-old athlete while awaiting further medical assistance. The patient was subsequently transferred to a hospital, where he was admitted in a critical condition.
The second athlete, who also suffered a cardiac arrest, received medical attention on Paseo de Recoletos. A doctor, spectating the event, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the athlete, assisted by two security members of the Madrid Half Marathon. After successfully restoring his heartbeat, the 35-year-old patient was transported to a hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition.
