Dénia is solidifying its position as an international host for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) and will once again hold the qualifying rounds of this prestigious global robotics tournament on the upcoming 7th of June at the Joan Fuster pavilion. Following the success of last year's edition, the Dénia City Council, through the Youth Department, reaffirms its commitment to innovation and technological education.
As a prelude to the competition, the Youth Department, in collaboration with Diverbot, has organised an introductory workshop scheduled for Saturday, 22nd February, from 9:00 to 12:30, at the Youth Building (Ronda Murallas, 42).
This workshop, aimed at young people aged between 10 and 18, will offer an initial introduction to robotics using Lego Spike and Lego Mindstorms. Participants will experience a simulation of the WRO, facing challenges similar to those of the official competition, while also receiving basic programming knowledge.
The aim of this initiative is to foster creativity, logical thinking, and teamwork, essential skills in today's world. No prior knowledge is required, as the learning will be guided and adapted to all levels.
Valen Alcalà, the councillor for the area, stated: "Robotics is not only a technological discipline with great future prospects but also an educational tool that allows young people to develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. With this initiative, we bring technological innovation to our city and reinforce our commitment to alternative leisure that contributes to the personal and academic growth of Dénia's youth."
