The Internal Medicine Service at Dénia Hospital has received Advanced Clinical Ultrasound certification from the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI). This is the highest level of accreditation in this field, placing it among the most advanced units in the country and allowing the training of both Resident Medical Interns (MIR) and adjunct physicians.
The certification acknowledges the trajectory of the Dénia centre, which has been implementing clinical ultrasound in this service for over a decade. Thanks to this diagnostic test, internists can make clinical decisions more swiftly, as the examination is conducted immediately and within the care environment itself.
With this diagnostic test, internists can make clinical decisions more swiftly, as the examination is conducted immediately and within the care environment itself.
According to Ángel Pellicer, head of the Internal Medicine Service at Dénia Hospital, "clinical ultrasound allows for advancements in diagnostic precision, as the physician directly conducts the test, knows the patient's history, the analytical results, and can interpret the images obtained more effectively."
Additionally, Pellicer added, "the implementation of ultrasound has also significantly improved care times because there is no need to refer to Radiology or wait for results. The test is conducted when deemed necessary, and the interpretation is immediate, allowing the patient to receive treatment more quickly."
Nivel avanzado
Dénia Hospital currently has a Clinical Ultrasound Unit equipped exclusively with portable devices. Half of the specialists are trained in clinical ultrasound, and some also hold the national certificate in echocardiography.
The Spanish Society of Internal Medicine establishes three levels of certification in clinical ultrasound: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Dénia Hospital has been accredited with the advanced level, recognising both the professionals' training and the centre's training capacity.
"The recognition is the result of a long process, initiated over a decade ago, and the accreditation arrives now, but it is the outcome of many years of work," stated Pellicer, who thanked the various management teams for "their constant support for clinical ultrasound."
