Argentine football is in mourning. Hugo Orlando Gatti, known as 'Loco', passed away this Sunday, April 20, at the age of 80. Gatti was one of the most iconic goalkeepers in Argentine football, reaching the pinnacle of his career by winning the Intercontinental Cup in 1977 with Boca Juniors, a team with which he also claimed the Libertadores twice.

Since last February, 'Loco' Gatti had been suffering from health issues due to a fall that resulted in a fractured hip. Following this, while admitted to the Pirovano hospital in Buenos Aires, complications arose, leading him to the ICU, where he required mechanical ventilation due to pneumonia.

This was not the first time Gatti had been critically ill, as he contracted coronavirus in 2020 and was also hospitalized. "They have declared me dead everywhere, but bad grass never dies," he remarked at the time.

Controversial both on and off the field, he became a notable figure in Spain thanks to his role as a commentator on the sports program El Chiringuito, on La Sexta, where he left his mark with controversial opinions and his unmistakable style in front of the cameras.
