Two individuals lost their lives on Sunday afternoon after the light aircraft they were travelling in crashed in a remote area of the municipality of San José del Valle, in Cádiz province. Initially, due to the difficulty in accessing the area, it was thought that there might be more casualties, but it was later confirmed that only two bodies were found.
A resident from the nearby village of Algar was the first to report the incident by calling the emergency number 112, alerting them to a possible small aircraft accident in the Puente Tempul area. Subsequently, Civil Guard officers coordinated with the Infoca fire service and the nearest air traffic control tower "to see if they were aware of the incident and could provide the accident location, but to no avail," sources from the institute told Europa Press.
However, an off-duty officer from the Algar post also received a call from this resident, "as he knows the potential accident area very well." The Civil Guard officer travelled to the site "on his own" and located the crashed aircraft in a "hard-to-reach area," with "at least two deceased individuals inside."
Unknown Causes
Later, after re-establishing contact with the Jerez airport control tower, the Civil Guard confirmed that it was an aircraft based in the town of La Ina. Finally, "after contacting one of the aircraft's owners," the officers explained that it was confirmed the plane "left its base in the morning on a routine flight with two people on board."
In any case, the causes of the accident remain unknown for now, and both the Civil Guard and aviation authorities will collaborate in the ongoing investigation. The mayor of San José del Valle, Antonio González Carretero, expressed his "deepest condolences on behalf" of the town "to the families of the two victims of the aircraft that crashed in Tempul, within our municipality."
