One Dead and One Injured in Light Aircraft Crash in Palencia

One person has died this morning in the vicinity of Abia de las Torres, near Osorno, following the crash of a light aircraft that had departed from Burgos. Emergency personnel from Castilla y León's 112 service, the Civil Guard, military personnel, and the rescue helicopter from the Regional Government of Castilla y León are currently working at the crash site. The helicopter located the wreckage after receiving a report about the missing aircraft.

The Emergency Coordination Center of Castilla y León directed the search for the crashed aircraft this morning after receiving calls from Burgos Airport and the Air Force's Search and Rescue Service (SAR) reporting the disappearance of a training aircraft. The aircraft had taken off from Burgos Airport and was last known to be in the vicinity of Osorno in Palencia province, near the border with Burgos province, around kilometer 106 of the A-231 highway.

At approximately 10:30 AM, 112 notified the Civil Guard (COS) in Palencia and Burgos, the Palencia Provincial Firefighters, and the Emergency Health Coordination Center (CCU) of Sacyl Health Emergencies, which dispatched a basic life support ambulance. The emergency coordination center also sent the Regional Government's rescue helicopter to the area, while SAR dispatched one of its helicopters.

After a few minutes of searching upon arrival at the site, the rescue helicopter from Castilla y León located the crashed aircraft in a farmland area near the Valdavia River, about 600 meters north of Abia de las Torres. One occupant was found deceased, and another was seriously injured. Health Emergencies activated an air ambulance and primary care medical personnel from Osorno's health center.
