One man, aged 25, has died and two others have been seriously injured in the early hours of Friday in central Madrid. The driver of the vehicle, who is currently hospitalized and under police custody, lost control of his vehicle in central Madrid.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. at Plaza de Neptuno, heading towards Atocha, when a vehicle lost control and struck two young people waiting for the night bus at a shelter located in Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, better known as Plaza de Neptuno. Another person of South American origin, who was returning from work, managed to step aside in time and was unharmed.
As a result of the impact, one of the young men died "from injuries incompatible with life" after several resuscitation attempts by Samur-Civil Protection paramedics who arrived at the scene.

Subsequently, another young man with multiple fractures in his torso and legs was transferred to the hospital with prior notice, after securing his airway; and the driver of the car, aged 33, who suffers from a traumatic brain injury, is under police custody.
Firefighters from the City Council have repaired damages to the shelter and stabilized the vehicle. Municipal Police officers have taken charge of the report and are investigating the circumstances, although everything points to excessive speed. For now, the results of the blood alcohol and toxicology tests conducted on the driver are awaited, as indicated this morning by the Deputy Mayor and Delegate for Security and Emergencies of Madrid, Inmaculada Sanz.
At the same location, on December 10, 2016, a 15-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle traveling at high speed while waiting with his father at a shelter. The driver of another car with which it collided was injured. The person responsible for the accident was arrested and spent some time in prison.
