The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has reached an agreement with Kosmos, the company led by former footballer Gerard Piqué, to resolve the legal battle in which both parties were involved since the beginning of 2023, following the breakdown of their business arrangement for organising the prestigious national team tournament.
"Kosmos and the ITF have reached an amicable resolution regarding their previous contractual disagreements related to the organisation of the Davis Cup. Both organisations wish each other success in their future projects," stated a communiqué released by the ITF on Thursday, marking the end of their court disputes.
Kosmos' involvement in the Davis Cup led to a revolution in the tournament's format, introducing Finals preceded by a group stage held across four different countries. However, this partnership collapsed at the start of 2023, after the ITF rejected Kosmos' demands to reduce the annual fee they had committed to pay, which was around 40 million euros.
In response, Kosmos approached the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to file a multi-million euro lawsuit against the ITF due to the "unjustified" termination of the contract binding the two parties. Meanwhile, the ITF sued Piqué's company, demanding 25 million euros. This legal dispute has now been resolved through an agreement by which both sides part ways.
