AI and Big Data are set to modernize the judicial system through a research project born in Alicante. The initiative is driven by the Digital Intelligence Centre of the province of Alicante (CENID), in collaboration with the Alicante Provincial Council, the University of Alicante, and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
In this context, multidisciplinary studies and scientific meetings will be conducted from various branches of the legal field to promote the modernization of the judicial system and its integration into the digital ecosystem. Tools such as AI will be explored to filter irrelevant data in judicial investigations, incorporate recordings and images into procedures, and improve court efficiency without compromising citizens' privacy.
One of the key points of the study is the analysis of the pilot phase of the citizen folder, a digital tool designed to facilitate the relationship between citizens and the Justice Administration, aiming to simplify procedures and speed up judicial processes.
Within the project framework, the UMH Legaltech research team, under the direction of Olga Fuentes as the principal investigator, has designed two seminars on the use of AI in Labour Inspection and Social Security, as well as four lectures focused on digital contracting and consumer protection on online platforms.
Moreover, data protection in the digital age will be a fundamental axis of the research. With the support of the Technical Support Service for Teaching and Research (SATDI) of the Miguel Hernández University, guides, protocols, and decalogues directed at public administrations will be developed.
The project also includes the study of emerging technologies such as Smart Cities and Smart Villages, analyzing their impact on citizen participation in municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants in the province of Alicante.
According to its leaders, the CENID study concludes with two key actions: an analysis of European regulations on AI and a conference or webinar at the Miguel Hernández University, where experts from various universities and organizations will discuss the ethical and responsible use of this technology.
