PSG survived the cauldron of Villa Park, bolstered by their daggers, with goals from wing-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes, and the lock of Donnarumma. Spurred by the atmosphere, Aston Villa bit from the start, pushing back from a 0-2 to nearly achieve a feat. Despite the aggressive English approach, PSG slowed the match's tempo with long possessions. The cold shower for the 'Villains' came when Hakimi capitalised on a ball deflected by Dibu Martínez.
Maximum effectiveness and a crushing blow for Unai Emery's side, who showed pride in adversity, loading the French area with intensity. Rogers nearly equalised shortly after, but PSG's decisiveness was undeniable when a textbook counterattack was exquisitely finished by Nuno Mendes. With the tie almost sealed, Tielemans' fortunate goal, deflected off Pacho's body, at least revitalised the spirited local fans.

The English team never lost enthusiasm, regaining faith with McGinn's equaliser, the result of a run and long shot by the brave Scottish midfielder. It was the final rallying call for an all-out Aston Villa, capable of coming within one goal of levelling the tie with Konsa's strike, assisted by Rashford after an extraordinary move by the former United player down the right flank.
Just one goal away from being forced into extra time, PSG relied on Donnarumma, often criticised but a hero in Birmingham. The Italian saved a Rashford shot, a Tielemans header, and a one-on-one with Asensio, holding off the proud Aston Villa, who chose the best possible way to exit the Champions League.
