Cycling in Villena Comes with a Reward

Villena City Council will announce the winner of the '30 Days on a Bike' contest during the International Bicycle Day celebrations on June 3rd. The Councillor for Sustainable Mobility, Francisco Iniesta, expressed gratitude to all participants who cycled around the city last April as part of the campaign promoted by the International Network of Cycling Cities. Participation in this initiative allowed entry into a draw for cyclist-specific gear.

Iniesta expressed great satisfaction with the public's response to this initiative, which aimed to raise awareness about the need to change urban travel habits, where motor vehicles – in environments like Villena – should always be the last option. The councillor thanked the 'Villena en Bici' collective for their collaboration.

The councillor also reminded that June 3rd is celebrated worldwide as Bicycle Day, a more sustainable, healthier mode of transport with a greater capacity to transform cities into more pleasant and safer human spaces. "It's another excuse to personally reconsider our car usage, for example, and whether it's justified in all cases," he said.

In addition to the environmental impact it generates, the massive use of private combustion vehicles impacts family finances and personal health, which we must reflect upon," recommended the Councillor for Sustainable Mobility.
