The America's Cup, one of the world's most prestigious sporting events, has served as the backdrop in Barcelona for the unveiling of the Terramar, the new model with which the Spanish brand enters the family SUV segment, the fastest-growing in Europe.

CUPRA is bringing much joy to the automotive group. The "sister" of SEAT is one of the fastest-growing brands in Europe, with around 700,000 cars delivered since 2018 and more than 800 sales points worldwide.

The new Terramar aims to complete the product range to make CUPRA even more competitive. Designed and developed in Barcelona, the Terramar will be produced at Audi's plant in Györ (Hungary). Deliveries will begin during the last quarter of this year. The price in Spain has not been officially announced, but in Germany, it will go on sale starting at 43,000 euros.

This model pays homage to Terramar, the historic racing circuit where the brand was born, and adopts the firm's new design language with a bold appearance. It measures 1.58 meters in height, 1.86 meters in width, 4.51 meters in length, and has a wheelbase of 2,681 mm. From the front view, the CUPRA Terramar presents a strong image characterized by its shark nose. The sporty proportions continue on the side of the Terramar, with fluid lines that extend from the front to the sides to enhance the SUV's sporty feel.

The interior reinterprets sportiness with a driver-oriented cockpit highlighted by the design of the central console. It also focuses on sustainability with Bucket seats that can be upholstered in their central sections with fabric created from SEAQUAL YARN 100% recycled material, Dinamica with at least 73% recycled material, or leather that uses a plant-based tanning process.

It incorporates a parametric 3D design also present in the structural parts of the dashboard and highlights CUPRA's attention to detail.

Digitalization is driver-centric. A new human-machine interface (HMI) integrates both into the Digital Cockpit instrumentation behind the steering wheel and into the infotainment system, which features a 12.9-inch screen and backlit sliding control. The experience goes a step further with the Windshield Head-up Display that projects information onto the windshield directly within the driver's line of sight.

The infotainment system adopts an improved app bar, widgets, and an easy-to-use backlit climate control bar. The new interface stands out for its simplicity, customization, and cutting-edge design. Climate control is now integrated into the main screen unit, with all functions accessible with a single click, combining digital and physical interactions.

Five Mechanical Options

The Terramar will be available with five propulsion options encompassing three different technologies: TSI (gasoline), eTSI (mild hybrid), and next-generation plug-in hybrid technology (e-HYBRID), with power outputs ranging from 150 HP to 272 HP.

The next-generation plug-in hybrid engines (e-HYBRID) offer Zero emissions labels, up to 272 HP, over 100 km of fully electric range, and are compatible with fast charging (up to 50 kW DC). All engines come with a dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission.

Entry-level is an eTSI (mild hybrid) engine that combines the efficiency of 48V mild hybrid technology with a 1.5 TSI gasoline engine producing 150 HP (110 kW). Exclusively paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission, this engine helps contain fuel consumption.

The hybrid technology consists of a generator and a 48V lithium-ion battery. The system achieves high efficiency partly because it allows the CUPRA Terramar to coast with its combustion engine off in certain scenarios. It also enables energy recovery during braking and provides electric assistance to the thermal engine.

e-HYBRID (plug-in hybrid)

The next-generation plug-in hybrid propulsion system improves performance and achieves extended 100% electric range, once again demonstrating that electrification and performance are a perfect combination.

Two e-HYBRID options with Zero emissions environmental labels are available in Terramar's lineup: one with 204 HP (150 kW) and another with 272 HP (200 kW), the latter for the VZ version.

In plug-in hybrid engines, the 1.5 TSI is paired with an electric motor and a large battery with a net capacity of 19.7 kWh. This allows the new CUPRA Terramar to travel over 100 kilometers on a single charge. The battery now supports fast charging up to 50 kW (DC), perfect for road trips. It can also be charged at home using an 11 kW Wallbox.

TSI (gasoline)

The range continues with TSI models featuring two gasoline engines of 2.0 liters where performance is key.

The first engine delivers 204 HP (150 kW) and comes with DSG transmission and all-wheel-drive system 4Drive, enhancing CUPRA Terramar's traction.

The second engine available for the VZ version increases power output. VZ stands for Veloz in Spanish, perfectly describing CUPRA's most powerful versions.

The gasoline engine in CUPRA Terramar VZ delivers 265 HP (195 kW) and is also paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive.

The CUPRA Terramar comes standard with 18" wheels and 235 mm tires (1.5 eTSI 150 HP, 2.0 TSI 204 HP, e-HYBRID 204 HP) or with 19" wheels and 255 mm tires (VZ 2.0 TSI 265 HP and VZ e-HYBRID 272 HP). Optionally, it can be equipped with 20" wheels and 255 mm tires.

Finally, VZ versions (both TSI and e-HYBRID) can be equipped with high-performance Akebono brakes featuring six-piston calipers and perforated discs measuring larger than standard ones (375 x 36 mm compared to standard's 340 x 36 mm). This system improves braking performance and provides even more confidence.
