Cramped, in unsanitary conditions, and forced to sell drugs to clients. This was the daily reality for eight women coerced into prostitution from a brothel apartment in Orihuela, operating 24 hours a day. The victims were only allowed to leave to buy food and were constantly monitored.
Additionally, the two operators of the apartment, a 57-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, compelled them to sell drugs, forcing the women to go to a drop-off point and collect cocaine hidden in cigarette packs, transporting between 10 and 20 grams per transaction.
The investigation began after the National Police received information indicating that several women were being sexually exploited in an apartment in Orihuela. The perpetrators, a man and a woman, were also allegedly involved in drug trafficking, according to police sources.
The Provincial Brigade of Immigration and Borders of the National Police of Alicante took charge of the investigation, conducting initial inquiries that confirmed the information's accuracy. The investigations revealed that the women, vulnerable and of South American nationality, were lured through deceit on erotic content websites, where the detainees offered working conditions that were not met.
The man was responsible for recruiting the victims of human trafficking, while the woman managed the brothel in his absence, setting the rates and service conditions, which ranged from 20 to 100 euros. The victims had to give half of their earnings and be available 24/7, unable to refuse clients.
In fact, these women lived a nightmare, crammed into a small room with three beds and minimal ventilation. When there were more than six, one had to sleep in the room designated for sexual services, vacating it when a client arrived.
Operation
After completing the investigation, the agents carried out the exploitation phase of the operation in a brothel apartment in Orihuela. There, the two suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in crimes related to prostitution, drug trafficking, and money laundering. The National Police also freed five new victims, bringing the total to eight women liberated, aged between 24 and 51, most of whom were in an irregular administrative situation.
During the search, various items related to the investigated crimes were seized: documentation related to sexual exploitation, seven packages of cocaine, three bottles of "poppers" (a substance allegedly used to enhance pleasure), 29 performance-enhancing pills, 350 euros in cash, and two mobile phones.
With the proceeds from the illicit activity, the detainees had acquired the property where the events took place. The arrested individuals were brought before the Orihuela Magistrate's Court on duty.
