Cristiano Ronaldo's journey in Saudi Arabian football has come to an end. The Portuguese star announced on Monday night that his "chapter" with the Saudi team Al Nassr had "ended," in a message posted after the final day of the league championship, where he emerged as the top scorer with 24 goals.

However, his message suggests that his professional career is not over and that he will continue scoring goals in another jersey. "This chapter has ended. The story? It's still being written. Thank you all," he posted on his Instagram account, accompanying the message with a photograph in the Riyadh club's jersey.

The announcement from the 40-year-old forward, whose contract with Al Nassr was set to expire this summer, comes weeks before the start of the Club World Cup (from June 14 to July 13 in the United States). FIFA has opened a special transfer window from June 1 to 10 to allow the 32 clubs participating in the new tournament to strengthen their squads.

Two and a half years in Arabia

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Saudi football two and a half seasons ago after the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar. His arrival at Al Nassr at the end of December that year made him the first major football name to join the Saudi league in its development phase.

Although last summer, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner stated that he might end his career at Al Nassr because it is "a team that makes me happy and where I feel good," his words on Monday make it clear that his future lies away from the team where he has played for the past 30 months.
