The National Police have arrested a couple in Alicante who allegedly lived with the corpse of a septuagenarian for two months to supposedly collect his pension. The retiree, aged 74, was a former national police officer.
The couple, aged 28 and 33, appeared in court this Thursday, as reported by À Punt and confirmed by police sources to TodoAlicante. They are accused of a crime against moral integrity for allegedly concealing the body, as well as misappropriation for collecting the deceased's pension.
The retiree had taken in this couple into his home, along with their baby and a nephew. Relatives of the deceased alerted the security forces that their father was not answering the phone and they could not contact him.
Officers found the man's body inside a locked room with the entrance blocked. Investigators are currently trying to determine the cause of death, although initial indications suggest he had been dead for at least two months.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition of the body, investigators have been unable to determine the cause of death at first glance, so the autopsy and relevant tests will reveal whether it was natural or violent.
