The American actor and composer Kris Kristofferson, a country music legend, has passed away "peacefully" at the age of 88 at his home in Maui, Hawaii, according to his family, who did not detail the cause of death.

Through his profile on the social network Instagram, it was indicated that he died on Saturday and that they are "very blessed" for the time they spent with him. "Thank you for loving him all these years, and when you see a rainbow, know that he is smiling at all of us," it was noted.

During his career, he wrote classics covered by artists like Janis Joplin ('Me And Bobby McGee') or Johnny Cash ('Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down'). A member of the Country Hall of Fame, Kris Kristofferson has been a boxer, football player, soldier, helicopter pilot, Grammy award winner, and above all, an icon.

A member of a generation of performers that includes Tom T. Hall, Mickey Newbury, Willie Nelson, and John Prine, Kristofferson managed to build a parallel career as an actor thanks to films like 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore', 'Convoy', 'A Star is Born', the 'Blade' series or Tim Burton's version of 'Planet of the Apes'.
