Countdown is underway. Less than a month remains until Alicante is in Hogueras. The calendar progresses, bringing with it various arrangements such as transport and traffic systems for the commissions and the rest of the city.

The City Council has prepared a special operation for traffic cuts, which this newspaper has accessed, planned for eight days due to the Hogueras of Alicante. Thus, the city centre will become pedestrianised during the main week of June.

The city centre will be restricted to vehicular traffic. The cuts will mainly affect Alicante's main arteries. Therefore, both locals and visitors should plan their routes in advance and use public transport.

If using a private vehicle, consider the traffic cuts in Alicante during the Hogueras. For greater convenience, it is recommended to use the park-and-ride facilities located outside the restricted circuit of the city centre.

Alicante will be sealed off to vehicular traffic from June 17, the first day of plantà. From 7 a.m., the streets surrounding the city centre will form a permeable perimeter to vehicle circulation.

Traffic-restricted circuit in:

  • Avenida Doctor Gadea

  • Avenida de Federico Soto

  • Avenida General Marvá

  • Calle Benito Pérez Galdós

  • Plaza Músico Óscar Tordera Iñesta

  • Calle Poeta Carmelo Calvo

  • Calle Padre Mariana

  • Plaza de Santa Teresa

  • Calle Cuesta de la Fábrica

  • Calle Vázquez de Mella

  • Calle Doña Violante

  • Calle Juan Bautista Lafora

  • Avenida Doctor Ramón y Cajal

Additionally, key routes of Alicante's central axis, such as Avenida Alfonso El Sabio and Avenida de la Estación, will close to traffic at various times of the day for parades, mascletàs, and other festive events of the Hogueras of Alicante.

Speed limit in Alicante

Vehicles with access to cross the perimeter of restrictions in Alicante's centre, despite the Hogueras traffic cuts, must consider the new rules enabled for this June week.

Even though the heart of the centre will be closed to vehicular traffic, controlled access will be allowed in certain adjacent areas, with restricted access and priority for residents, public transport, emergency vehicles, and authorised services.

Traffic within the central area will be limited to 20 kilometres per hour, aiming to ensure safety on streets filled with people and with racós, barracas, and fogueres on various roads and intersections.

Alternative routes for June

During the main days of Hogueras, it is advisable to use alternative routes that bypass the centre of Alicante. Some of these include the Vía Parque, Gran Vía, and the coastal corridor, to access nearby areas without crossing the closed streets.

In these areas, several free public parking facilities are available as park-and-ride options. These are a good place to park to visit the centre's commissions and see the mascletàs on foot or by public transport.

This plan will also include reinforcements in urban transport, security, cleaning, and emergencies. Additionally, a free bus line is expected to be enabled for the Hogueras days, allowing visitors to see all the Special category commissions.
