The Council Grants Aid to 106 Municipalities in Alicante for Fire Prevention and Forest Management

The Generalitat has announced in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) the direct allocation of 7.9 million euros in subsidies to 418 municipalities in the Valencian Community - 106 of which are in Alicante - with the aim of strengthening municipal actions in fire prevention and forest management for the current year.

As highlighted by the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, "we are fulfilling what we promised last year, and these aids have been available since May, allowing municipalities to be more effective in fire prevention."

These aids come from the Municipal Strategic Fund for Fire Prevention and Forest Management, an instrument created to channel resources to municipalities with forest areas and a Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan (PLPIF). The aim is to improve the municipalities' ability to act in risk situations and to promote more effective and adapted forest planning for each environment.

By province, the aids are distributed among 106 municipalities in Alicante, 129 in Castellón, and 183 in Valencia, reaching a total amount of 7,994,268.63 euros. This fund allows municipalities to directly finance actions included in both their prevention plans and their technical forest management instruments.

The subsidized actions include essential works such as the creation and maintenance of firebreak areas, the adaptation and improvement of forest tracks for the access of firefighting means, the installation and rehabilitation of strategic water points, as well as preventive tasks such as cutting, pruning, or clearing. Support for sustainable forest management practices is also considered.

The Ministry insists that prevention is the most effective tool to combat forest fires, and these aids represent a strategic investment not only in safety but also in sustainability, landscape, and the protection of natural heritage. In this regard, the Minister reminded that "since June 1, generalized burning is not allowed, precisely due to the increase in temperatures at this time."

With this line of subsidies, the Generalitat strengthens its collaboration with municipalities and promotes a more active, planned, and responsible management of forest areas.
