The Council has announced the filing of a contentious-administrative appeal against the Government's Unique Register of Tourist Accommodations. The Generalitat argues that Royal Decree 1312/2024, which establishes a Single Digital Window, "infringes on regional tourism competencies."
The Tourism Minister, Marián Cano, emphasized that "we support eliminating illegal tourist accommodation rentals," but contends that the regulation lacks the necessary legal and technical foundations, as confirmed by the State Council's opinion in file 1926/2024."
Cano highlighted that while there is "absolute agreement with the European Union Regulation on the collection and exchange of data regarding short-term accommodation rental services," the minister is "absolutely opposed to the execution designed and implemented by the Government."
The head of the tourism department asserts that "it is crucial to control illegal tourist rentals," but through regulations developed with regional communities that address real issues." Cano points to the regulation, noting that it "imposes unnecessary duplications and limits our capacity to act."
The appeal marks the culmination of the disagreement with the central government. The Generalitat had previously submitted a preliminary request on February 24 to amend some provisions "that violate legality, but the Sánchez Government has acted arrogantly and without any willingness for dialogue or coordination with the regions," Cano criticizes.
In this context, Cano makes it clear that the goal "is to prevent harm to the Valencian Community's tourism sector, which is already feeling the damaging impact and negative effects of its implementation," and defends that the Council "wants to prevent duplications with existing regional registers and ensure regional authority to act against illegal offers and order the removal of advertisements."
"We demand a real dialogue with the Government to resolve this jurisdictional conflict, urgently convening the autonomous communities to jointly address the regulation of tourist rentals," concluded the head of the Council's tourism policy.
