Industrial activity in Xixona is set to expand with the arrival of two leading food companies. These are López Mira SL and Progelcone, which specialise in the production of sugar syrups and products for ice creams, bakeries, and cafes, respectively.

Both companies will construct new facilities in the El Espartal III industrial estate in Xixona, investing a total of five million euros, with López Mira contributing 3.5 million and Progelcone 1.5 million euros.

This announcement was made on Friday by the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, during a visit to Jomipsa and Antiu Xixona, located in the same industrial estate. He revealed the allocation, through Ivace+i, of "more than 10,700 m2 of industrial land to two leading food companies, generating an investment of five million euros."

Mazón detailed that this allocation has been made in a sale-purchase modality and will allow the construction of new facilities as part of "a commitment to grow and expand in this industrial estate, which will have a direct impact on employment." The head of the Council described these actions as "an example that the agri-food industry in the province of Alicante and the Valencian Community has good prospects to seize opportunities and continue growing."

The importance of this industrial area for the local economy is noteworthy, with a surface area of 105,741.45 m2 and 76 plots. It hosts a total of 14 awarded companies generating an investment of 18.3 million euros and maintaining 146 jobs. Additionally, it is home to the headquarters of the Regulatory Council IGP of Jijona and Alicante Turrón.

Announcement of a new aid package

In addition to this announcement, Mazón publicly stated that a new aid package worth over 33 million euros from European funds will be launched for SMEs in the Community. In this regard, the president explained that the extraordinary line, which is outside the budget, is the result of "negotiations with European Union officials to continue supporting our productive sectors."

Mazón indicated that within these 33 million euros "there will be a specific line for companies affected by floods." This new call will be added to other actions already underway, such as the IVF and Afin SGR financing lines, the 100 million euros for self-employed with employees and companies of the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, and the 90 million euros for self-employed without employees from the Ministry of Employment, among others.

The head of the Council emphasised the Generalitat's commitment to "increase the industry's share of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 14% to 20%" in a sustainable and balanced manner by strengthening established sectors and attracting emerging industries.
