Still reeling from the recent Easter celebrations, the destinations in the province of Alicante are gearing up for another period of high tourist activity with the May 1st holiday. For the Community of Madrid, a major source of visitors to the region, the long weekend is extended by the regional holiday on May 2nd.

Adding to this is the favourable weather forecast for the entire Costa Blanca, which is expected to escape the rain and bad weather affecting much of Spain. This has encouraged many to make last-minute bookings, pushing occupancy levels above 80% in nearly all destinations, according to data from the hotel association Hosbec.

Leading the way this holiday period is the town of Calpe, which is nearing 94% of its available accommodations booked, thus reaching full capacity. Not far behind, with many more rooms on the market, is Benidorm, which has already reached 87.7% occupancy, as well as the city of Alicante at 86.7%. l'Alfàs del Pi has also seen a significant increase in bookings, reaching 85.3%.

International Market Surges

May 1st is a public holiday in most European countries, which has also boosted international market bookings. In fact, according to Hosbec's data system, it is estimated that 40% of tourists arriving on the Costa Blanca during this period will come from outside Spain, contributing to increased occupancy in destinations such as Calpe, Benidorm, Valencia, and Alicante.

In Alicante, the Santa Faz Pilgrimage will take place tomorrow, expected to be one of the most attended in recent years as it coincides with both national and international holidays.

Hosbec officials also highlight that "these figures, updated as of today by BigDataHosbec, indicate that the energy crisis has not impacted hotel bookings for the May 1st holiday, and all destinations are operating at full capacity."
