The Costa Blanca Board has organised a work session with Murcia Tourism to promote the province's offerings and proposals related to professional cycling and cycling tourism, a significant attraction for travellers to Alicante's municipalities, positioning it as a leading international destination in this segment.
The delegation from the Region of Murcia participating in this networking event was led by María del Mar Martínez, Director of Promotion and Technical Promotion at the Murcia Region Tourism Institute -Itrem-, and comprised a group of industry entrepreneurs keen to learn firsthand about both the province of Alicante and some of its iconic locations for this sport, as well as successful business cases from the Costa Blanca.
The Director of the Provincial Tourism Board, José Mancebo, hosted the Murcian delegation and accompanied them on this visit, coordinated by technicians from the Alicante Provincial Tourism Board. Also joining the session, taking advantage of his stay in the province for a fam trip, was Ignacio Valle, Director of the Spanish Tourism Office in The Hague.
Mancebo conveyed that this initiative "arises in collaboration with our neighbouring region of Murcia," while highlighting that it is the first time this action has been carried out.
"It is important to see that our work in recent years regarding strategy and commitment to cycling tourism is bearing fruit and also serves to showcase the talent, quality, and dedication of our sector's professionals in this field," stated the Director of the Costa Blanca Board, who emphasised that such collaborative synergies "help us exchange experiences, viewpoints, and work models, which are important for continued growth and improvement."
The programme included visits to three hotels in the province - Cap Negret in Altea, Gran Hotel Sol y Mar, and AR Diamante Beach in Calpe - which have extensive experience in this market segment and have been accommodating and adapting to the needs and demands of not only professional cycling teams but also any tourist who loves cycling.
Additionally, as José Mancebo pointed out, "these hotels are just a representative sample of many others that, from north to south of our province, are located in unique settings and have infrastructures appreciated by cyclists, as they can start routes along the coast and reach the most emblematic mountain passes in the territory or other areas of great interest for athletes."
