La Costa Blanca continues to progress in its aim to connect the province of Alicante with North America. Several times, both the Diputación and the Generalitat have expressed their intention to bring transoceanic flights to Alicante-Elche airport, with a particular focus on the North American and Asian markets.
At Fitur, the Ministry of Tourism and the Costa Blanca Board held professional meetings to explore these options and lay the groundwork for a future connection. This was confirmed on Tuesday by the director of the Board, José Mancebo, who stated that at Fitur "we had a meeting related to the North American and Asian side."
Mancebo also revealed that the work line followed by the entity "will not only be in the United States but also in Canada," and indicates, without revealing more, that "we have plans that need to be approved and very important perspectives."
These meetings were followed by other promotional ones with advisors from the Spanish Tourism Offices, which took place in strategic markets such as the United States and Canada, where they seek to boost language or conference tourism.
Regarding the future connection with North America, it could be affected by Donald Trump's restrictions and protectionist policies, which have already announced tariffs on Spain and, if successful, would put 1,800 jobs in Alicante at risk.

Thus, Canada emerges as one of the key names gaining strength and becoming increasingly important in the province's tourism market, where visitors from this country have already been recorded, and even home buyers.
Regarding the change of government in the United States, Mancebo indicated that "we have to make a plan with the capacity to adapt to what is going to happen in the exercise." In this regard, the head of the entity assures that "we always look at all kinds of indicators, such as geopolitical ones," and hopes that these policies "will not go further."
With a focus on these markets, it is important not to overlook other agreements reached by the Provincial Council of Alicante for the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. After meetings with major airlines, Ryanair, the main company in Alicante, has announced new routes to Bydgoszcz in Poland, and to Salzburg and Linz in Austria.

For its part, EasyJet will connect the province with two major destinations such as Naples and Athens, while a 12% growth in its operations is expected for the summer. Sky Up will open a route from Moldova with two weekly frequencies, also aimed at the Ukrainian market, and Jet2 and Jet2 Holidays will expand itineraries from the United Kingdom, with new connections from London Luton and Bournemouth, consolidating their leadership in the region.
Finally, the airline Fly Play is evaluating increasing its flights between Reykjavik and Alicante to a daily frequency in summer, in collaboration with the Costa Blanca Board.
