Alicante has received four of the ten emergency vehicles this May, which are intended to renew the fleet of the Fire Prevention and Extinction Service (Speis), with the City Council allocating nearly three million euros. This improvement comes after 15 interim firefighters were incorporated to fill vacancies, while the renovation works at the Jesús González Soria park on Jaume II Avenue are expected to be completed by the 19th of this month.
Of the ten emergency vehicles acquired to renew the fire station's fleet, two multi-rescue vans prepared for traffic accident interventions have been delivered this month; another air reserve van used for large fires, such as those in industrial estate warehouses, equipped with fans and air reserve equipment. Additionally, a water rescue van for the diving unit has been provided.
The Alicante City Council approved in January the manufacture and supply of these ten specialised vehicles for 2,719,081 euros through a public tender divided into four lots. Specifically, an air reserve van, a diving van, and a rescue van, in addition to a rescue chassis-cab truck, have already been incorporated; to which two heavy urban fire engines, a light urban fire engine, a decontamination van, and two command and chief vehicles will be added soon.
Moreover, between 2023 and so far in 2025, other contracts for the supply of personal protective equipment (helmets, under-helmets, gloves, torches, intervention suits) have been tendered and awarded, as well as the maintenance contract for the more than 30 vehicles that make up the fire brigade's fleet, in addition to the comprehensive renovation of the Jesús González Soria park, with an investment of over 400,000 euros and other improvements at the central Idelfonso Prats park on Locutor Vicente Hipólito Avenue.
The Security Councillor, Julio Calero, highlighted "the government's commitment to improving and modernising equipment, vehicles, and fire stations with a total investment of around 10 million euros, in addition to progress in other areas currently under negotiation, with the aim of providing the city and Speis officials with the best working and safety conditions."
