The launch of the second terminal at the port of Alicante, operated by JSV, has marked a qualitative leap in port business. Container traffic has reached the best figure for January in 25 years, with 15,695 TEUs (20-foot containers), according to a statement from the Port Authority.
The Alicante port faces 2025 with a significant increase in container movement figures. In January, the port increased its container traffic by 48% compared to January 2023. It continues the growth trend of 2024, with an annual closure forecast increase of 5.3%, reaching 180,820 TEUs (20-foot containers). With these figures, Alicante climbs to the tenth position in container traffic among the 28 Spanish port authorities.

Of the total port traffic, 37% is container cargo, with an increase of 5.5%. Solid bulk by special installation, mainly carried out through the EIFFAGE bulk terminal, accounts for 32% of the tonnes moved by the port. This traffic has increased by more than 19% compared to 2023.
The port's forecast is to continue this growth in the coming months by attracting new traffic. Thus, the Alicante Chamber of Commerce has sent a mission to Algeria to consolidate the lifting of trade restrictions and strengthen the historic relationship that the port has always maintained in both goods and passenger traffic.
Another sign of improved traffic is reflected in the RO-RO cargo figures (Roll-on Roll-off, or wheeled traffic). Although not yet significant in the total set, it has grown by 82% thanks to new lines with Libya and stops in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt. In this Arab country, the port has moved nearly 40,000 tonnes of vehicles, including tractor heads, trailers, and various machinery.
