The construction of the new 'Maestro José Toro' sociocultural center in Torrellano will begin in the first quarter of 2025. The mayor of Elche, Pablo Ruz, stated that this space is an "act of justice and dignity for the more than 7,000 registered residents living in this district who need the same services as the rest of the people from Elche."
The new sociocultural center represents an investment of 3.8 million euros and the construction period will be between 14 and 18 months. This space, demanded by the residents of the district, will have a ground floor and two additional floors with a total built area of 2,189 square meters.
The center will feature an auditorium with more than 450 seats spread over two floors, a library, reading rooms, OMAC, offices for associations, social workers, the district mayor, and Local Police, as well as multipurpose rooms and music classrooms. In this regard, Ruz noted that the Torrellano Musical Union will have a space for their auditions there since they are currently held in the parish of the district.
A new project for this district was presented yesterday to the residents of Torrellano. Ruz highlighted the work done by the Departments of Districts and Urban Planning to acquire the current plot since the City Council owned one-third and the rest was owned by the General Association of Families of Torrellano, from which free transfer was obtained. "Having this plot is the result of this government's work."
The councilor for Districts, Raúl Sempere, indicated that this sociocultural center will also serve residents from nearby districts such as Santa Ana, Balsares, Saladas, or Jubalcoy. For his part, the councilor for Municipal Strategy, Francisco Soler, highlighted the satisfaction with a project that has been a priority for this municipal government.
The Pimesa council, promoter of the action, will approve in November the specifications for tendering works on this space which, according to the manager of the municipal company, "will be an emblematic project from an architectural point of view that meets the requirements of residents."
