The curse has fallen in 2025 on the Alicante Hogueras fireworks competition. After the withdrawal of a pyrotechnic company due to scheduling issues, as justified, the search for an alternative location is underway 'in extremis' a month and a half before the event.

The Alicante City Council announced this Tuesday that it is engaged in negotiations for a new site to hold the displays due to the Government's construction to expand the Postiguet breakwater.

These works, carried out in the Cocó area where the devices are set up, will continue until July, forcing the search for alternatives for the displays scheduled from June 25 to 29 at the final stretch of this Alicante beach.

The Councillor for Festivities, Cristina Cutanda, criticised the Provincial Coastal Service in Alicante for not communicating the intentions to carry out these works during the concession period of the area for the Hogueras fireworks displays.

In this regard, the councillor and spokesperson for the municipal government team recalled that the City Council has authorisation for this purpose for four years, but at the time of its tender, no information was provided about the works on the breakwater.

Postiguet to gain 200 metres of beach with new breakwater

Postiguet beach will gain 200 metres of sand with the new breakwater works. The Directorate General of the Coast and Sea of the Spanish Government is working on a new containment structure to replace the current breakwater installed in 1993. The works began in February with a duration of six months, expected to be completed by July. The new breakwater will change shape, forming an 'L' into the sea, which will increase the sandy area of Postiguet beach and ensure its long-term stability. The project also includes isolating the beach from the discharge of rain and wastewater from the Cocó drain, aiming to ensure water quality for bathing.

Thus, the City Council and the Festivities department continue to search for a new location that will definitively settle the festive calendar of the Alicante Hogueras.

For now, no location has been finalised, Cutanda highlighted, but the fireworks will be launched from a coastal area and in front of the Alicante coastline. It is still unknown whether it will be at a different section of the same Postiguet or another point in the city.

Calendar of Hogueras Fireworks

Despite currently lacking a space to hold the Hogueras and San Pedro fireworks competition, the fireworks calendar continues without new changes.

The last change occurred last February when the Ferrández pyrotechnic company from Redován declined the display due to scheduling reasons. The City Council convened the jury to select another company to fill the gap.

Thus, they decided to assign this display to the Hermanos Ferrández pyrotechnic company from Beniel in place of those from Redován, closing a calendar that poses new headaches due to the works at Cocó.
