A total of 11 companies have submitted bids for the public tender to comprehensively renovate the new Central Market and its surroundings. This major project also includes work on the archaeological remains of the Arab baths and civil war shelters, aiming to integrate the urbanisation with the network of streets and squares in the historic centre.
The construction is expected to commence in early 2025, with a completion timeline of 15 months. An investment of 11.3 million euros is planned for its full renovation. According to the municipal government spokesperson, Inma Mora, "this is a city project that will bring economic and social revitalisation to the historic centre."

The constructed area will be around 1,330 square metres, with over 1,200 of these on the ground floor. The project includes removing the intermediate floor slab and levelling the ground floor with the public space. Simultaneously, the roof will be restored while maintaining the existing volume, height, and skylight.
The project covers nearly 3,500 square metres between the market and the exterior area. The pavement layout is designed to enhance the idea of the open building as an extension of the public space, blurring the boundary between the building's interior and exterior. Additionally, tree planting and lighting are planned.
The new market comprises 24 traditional market stalls, each with an area of 15 square metres, along with gastronomic and dining areas at the building's ends. It is planned that stalls located in the outer corridors will have exits to the adjacent streets.
Furthermore, the area of the Valencian Community, where vendors are currently temporarily located, will be restored to its original use as a garden and recreational area.
