Construction of La Almadraba School to Begin Next Week, Classrooms Expected to Open in 2026

Construction of the new public school (CEIP) La Almadraba in Alicante will commence next week, with facilities expected to be ready by the start of the 2026/27 academic year. These are the projections of the Alicante City Council, presented this Friday during a visit by the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, and the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, to the plot where this centre will be built.

The execution of the project "addresses a historic demand in the beach area and will finally meet the educational needs of the students of Playa de San Juan, with spacious, modern facilities offering all comforts," highlighted Barcala.

Meanwhile, President Mazón emphasised that 13.1 million euros will be allocated for the launch of the new school, with "the estimation that, in 15 months, 735 children from La Condomina Playa de San Juan will have a new educational centre to attend, thus meeting the growing demand for school places in the area."

The La Almadraba school will be built on a 12,268 square metre plot located in the La Condomina area, between Britania, Enric Valor, and Manuel Azaña streets. The constructed area will be 7,016 square metres and will feature three nursery classrooms for the 0 to 2-year-old cycle, nine more for the 3 to 5-year-old cycle, and 18 additional classrooms for primary education. In total, it will have the capacity to accommodate 735 students and will include a dining hall with 600 seats.

The facility will consist of three buildings arranged in a 'U' shape. All of them will be connected by a porch that will unify the appearance of the different volumes and allow users to move from the entrance of the plot to any building of the centre under cover and protected from the weather.

The Infant building will be exclusively dedicated to the educational facilities outlined in the needs programme for nursery education. Thus, there will be a total of 15 classrooms with integrated toilets, necessary facilities for teaching staff, and installations. All classrooms will have direct access to the outdoor space.

Meanwhile, the Primary building will house the primary education facilities, administration, general services, and complementary spaces. Additionally, the ground floor will contain the main entrances, the kitchen-dining area, the administrative zone, the three first-year Primary classrooms, small group classrooms, and the library.

The gymnasium building will be on the ground floor and will consist of a sports court for physical activities, changing rooms, toilets, an installation room, and a storage room.
