The Valencian Government remains firm in its refusal to accommodate more immigrant minors, as stated by President Carlos Mazón during the presentation of the budget agreement with Vox. At that time, the head of the Consell criticised the central Government's 'bargaining' and now, Vice President and Minister of Social Services, Susana Camarero, has justified that the Royal Decree was made 'without consulting the autonomous communities'.
At the Sectoral Conference on Children and Adolescents, which takes place this Monday, the Royal Decree proposed by the central Government for the distribution of migrant minors will be presented to the autonomous communities for voting. The Consell considers it 'a lack of institutional respect' and 'a new encroachment on the powers of the autonomous communities that we will not tolerate from the Valencian Community'.
In this regard, Camarero has criticised that 'the distribution outlined in the Decree is a decision tailored to the interests of Pedro Sánchez's pro-independence partners, which creates an unjustifiable inequality among the autonomous communities'.
With the proposal, Madrid, Andalusia, and the Valencian Community will share 50% of the 4,000 unaccompanied minors currently in the Canary Islands, 'while the distribution leaves Catalonia with 30 minors, barely 0.62% of the total to be distributed', criticises the Vice President.
The Generalitat has already announced a constitutional challenge before the Constitutional Court against this decision by Sánchez's Government 'which represents a clear interference in the Valencian Community's own powers in the area of child protection'.
Additionally, the First Vice President has expressed her rejection of the criteria for the distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors from the Canary Islands proposed by the Government. She has stated that the Valencian protection system 'is strained and supports an occupancy rate close to 160%, despite having expanded places last year'.
As explained by the Vice President, the Valencian Community 'cannot endure another of Sánchez's whims to patch up the reception of minors, which requires a serious migration policy that prevents mafias from playing with the lives of minors and needs work in the countries of origin as we do in the Community', she asserted.
