The Mediterranean Foundation begins the 'New Directions' conference series with a program of talks that invites exploration of the great challenges of the present, from digital transformation to philosophical reflection. The first conference, given by journalist Pedro Piqueras, will take place this Tuesday, October 15, at the Alicante Culture Hall on Doctor Gadea Avenue.
'New Directions' will feature two other prominent figures besides Piqueras: AI specialist Cristina Aranda and philosopher Javier Gomá. This series aims to foster a deep and meaningful reflection on the opportunities and challenges of the present, promoting critical reflection and innovation through conversations with leading experts.
'Edition Closure: Journalistic Legacy in a Fast-Paced World' by the renowned journalist Pedro Piqueras, interviewed by Asunción Valdés, will be the first session. This session offers a unique opportunity to learn about the career of Piqueras, one of the most recognized names in Spanish journalism. With decades of experience in radio and television, and awarded multiple prizes, Piqueras will share his perspective on journalism and the future of communication in the digital age.
The series will continue on November 5 at 7 PM with Cristina Aranda's lecture titled "How Artificial Intelligence is Changing Our World," where the AI expert will discuss how this technology transforms our daily lives, from social media to geolocation and email. Aranda, a renowned linguist and founder of several tech projects, will explain the principles of natural language processing and the future of human-machine interaction.
Philosopher Javier Gomá, author of the Exemplarity Tetralogy, will close the series on November 13 with a reflection on the major trends in contemporary culture, addressing topics such as polarization, individualism, and the causes of current discontent. His intervention promises to be a profound inquiry into our society and its complexities.
This conference series reaffirms the Mediterranean Foundation's commitment to the dissemination of critical thinking and the promotion of interdisciplinary dialogue. Admission to all conferences in the series will be free, subject to the capacity of the Alicante Culture Hall.
