Compromís, the municipal group in Alicante City Council, will present an institutional declaration at the April plenary session for the Council to request to join as a private prosecution in the case against the woman accused of throwing her two dogs out of an eighth-floor window in the Albufereta neighbourhood, allegedly because she did not want to walk the animals, resulting in their deaths.
In a statement, the coalition's spokesperson, Rafa Mas, expressed being "fed up with animal abuse": "Animal rights groups demand firmness, and especially the animal movement led by Javier Sánchez of Kompatas asks us for an initiative."
Compromís will urge the plenary to "reject and condemn all acts of animal abuse, especially the death of two dogs after being thrown from a height in Albufereta, and to join as a private prosecution in the judicial case against the person accused of killing her two dogs, as the City Council of Elche did in a similar case."
It will also request the council to "strengthen its public animal protection policies, with increased budget allocation for the Department of Animal Welfare in social awareness, such as campaigns against abuse and for responsible ownership," and "review municipal action protocols" in such cases, "ensuring staff training and their ability to respond effectively, in coordination with security forces and legal operators."
