Compromís finds itself in a predicament, reminiscent of the famous meme. After a week of hinting at breaking the agreement with Sumar, the nationalist coalition concluded its executive meeting by deciding to stay in Yolanda Díaz's group but demands a "reevaluation of the pact" for this week. Therefore, the two deputies in Congress, Àgueda Micó and Alberto Ibáñez, will not join the mixed group, although they will maintain autonomy in voting.
It is all rhetoric to avoid acknowledging Compromís' backtrack, especially Més, in breaking away from Sumar. This position discomforted the PSOE and caused unease in Madrid, leading to numerous contacts over the past week to reach this agreement, unanimously adopted by the Valencian executive on Monday.
To this end, Sumar offered Compromís greater visibility in its political actions in Congress. The goal of the Valencian nationalists is to enhance their opposition profile against the PP in anticipation of hypothetical regional elections that left-wing parties have been demanding since the October 29 storm. However, this always involves a pact with the PSPV, as recent polls indicate an increase in support for Compromís, but not enough to lead the left-wing alternative.
Compromís will maintain its request for Pedro Sánchez to appear before the Congress storm investigation commission, as was its wish. Sumar has not supported this, believing it would weaken the PSOE overall.
For now, Compromís has indicated that the goal will be to establish a new framework of relations that guarantees the "full autonomy" of member parties in a confederal group similar to the Plural parliamentary group in which it participated in the previous legislature. Inside, but outside.
Compromís deputy in Congress, Àgueda Micó (Més), explained that the three pillars of the coalition have "aligned" their positions, considering that the Valencian political project must be "above all" to "participate in a dignified, Valencianist, and leftist manner in a plural group." In her view, it is compatible to defend the interests of Valencians while being "comfortable" working in a group where "brave and transformative policies" are made, something she hopes the other formations in Sumar in the Lower House will understand.
Meanwhile, Compromís deputy Alberto Ibáñez (Iniciativa) stated that there is a "shared" roadmap in the coalition after a week of negotiations and called for "prudence" in discussions with Sumar to advance the agreements.
