Compromís continues its battle against the Alicante Maternity Support Office. Vox's proposal is criticised by the left as anti-abortion, while the right defends it as support for all mothers. On Monday, Compromís held a meeting with various social agents regarding this office. At the party's headquarters, they met with CCOO, UGT, and STEPV "to work together in favour of the sexual and reproductive rights of Alicante women," explained Councillor Sara Llobell of the Alicante City Council.

The meeting was also attended by Compromís deputy in the Valencian Parliament, Mónica Àlvaro, who has been questioning the parliament about access to voluntary termination of pregnancy for Alicante women. The party describes the response as "devastating": at the General Hospital of Alicante, zero voluntary terminations were performed in 2023, while 602 were publicly funded (through contracted clinics) and 138 went directly to private clinics. Similarly, at the other public hospital, Sant Joan d'Alacant, zero were performed, with 386 women referred to contracted clinics and 119 to private clinics.

Llobell deemed this situation "unjust" and affirmed that her party will work "to restore the rights of Alicante women and ensure that public funds are not allocated to entities or groups that coerce women seeking voluntary termination of pregnancy."

Compromís has denounced that anti-abortion associations like Pro-Vida received €118,000 from the Valencian Government and €20,000 from the Alicante City Council in the last fiscal year. "The same groups that stand outside clinics to harass women," the councillor recalled.

Furthermore, the party stated it would bring "the opacity" of the Alicante City Council, which "does not respond to municipal group inquiries about the operation of the maternity office," to the Ombudsman. They will also coordinate actions with trade unions to reverse an unjust situation for Alicante women.
