Compromís is fracturing, dragging Sumar along with it. The coalition is torn between continuing its agreement with Yolanda Díaz or severing ties, indirectly affecting the Government as well. The majority faction of Més (formerly Bloc), which includes Joan Baldoví and MP Àgueda Micó, favours independence, while Iniciativa (founded by Oltra and led by Aitana Mas) advocates remaining within the coalition.

The Valencian nationalists are pressuring Sumar, and consequently the PSOE, to request the appearance of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in the congressional investigation committee on the dana. The socialists are urging Sumar not to support this appearance, further straining the fragile thread maintained by Yolanda Díaz's group. This would mark the second split in Sumar following Podemos' departure in 2023, taking its four MPs with it.

After hours of deliberation, the Més-Compromís executive unanimously approved on Tuesday night to leave the Sumar parliamentary group in Congress to "ensure the ability to defend Valencian interests," which would mean joining the Mixed Group as Podemos did.

Nevertheless, Més has "reaffirmed its commitment" to the stability of the central coalition government, the approval of progressive measures, and the defence of the electoral programme with which it ran in the general elections, according to a statement from the party. Compromís holds two seats in the Lower House: Àgueda Micó and Alberto Ibáñez, who are crucial for maintaining the progressive majority.

Més remains steadfast in its position, although they are giving themselves a week to make a final decision. The Compromís executive, which includes all formations of the Valencian convergence, will make a determination. The former Bloc has no issue with cutting ties with both Pedro Sánchez and the PSPV, from which they seek to distance themselves and establish their own identity in Les Corts.

Meanwhile, sources from Sumar consulted by 'Europa Press' have reiterated their willingness to dialogue within the multinational parliamentary group and that they always have an "open hand" to reach an agreement. Second Vice President Yolanda Díaz has already expressed her confidence that an agreement will eventually be reached and the existing differences can be overcome.

Both Positions

Més, where MP and deputy spokesperson of Sumar Àgueda Micó is a member, has announced that they will convey this position to the Compromís executive, the coalition's governing body, and "the only space to continue seeking a consensual solution in light of the veto experienced with the dana investigation committee in Congress." Therefore, they have called on the Compromís executive, which meets next week, to decide on their position in Congress.

Previously, the Iniciativa-Compromís executive - another party that forms Compromís - unanimously approved continuing work within the multinational parliamentary group Sumar in the Congress of Deputies and "expanding the framework of alliances" at the state and Valencian Community levels to "articulate a progressive majority."

The formation, which references MP Alberto Ibáñez, has traditionally shown more alignment with maintaining relations with leftist projects at the state level.

Their executive has followed this line of continuing with Sumar and "expanding the framework of alliances" at the state and Valencian Community levels to "oust Mazón's PP and articulate a progressive majority," a stance they will also defend in the Compromís executive.

This is not the first time divergences have emerged in the formations allied with Sumar, as the negotiation of the candidacy for the European elections caused significant tension among the parties, especially with IU, which ultimately decided to join the list despite disagreeing with its position, but also with Más Madrid.
