The triumph of the Peruvian restaurant Maido at the gala of The World's 50 Best Restaurants held this Thursday in Turin leaves a bittersweet taste for Spanish gastronomy. Although the Basque Extebarri and Madrid's DiverXO hoped to clinch the top spot in this international sector ranking, their disappointment at not achieving it does not overshadow the fact that both remain in the 'top 5' of the world's best establishments to enjoy a meal.

This recognition, which no other country achieves - Peru does have two restaurants in the 'top 10' and Thailand ranks among the top thirteen - is complemented by the fact that Elkano, the renowned establishment from Getaria in Gipuzkoa, secures the 24th position and Barcelona's Enigma ranks 34th.
