The annual report of the Special Commission for Suggestions and Complaints of the Alicante City Council highlights the increase in citizen inquiries during 2024. This rise particularly affects two key areas of municipal management: social welfare and cleaning services.

According to data presented this Friday at the commission, telephone inquiries to the Social Action area have increased by 52%, from 2,349 in 2023 to 3,572 in 2024. There is also a notable rise in complaints related to street cleaning, which have risen by 38%, from 2,308 to 3,201, despite the recent implementation of the new service contract.

The report also includes other recurring concerns among citizens, such as library closures, lack of school staff, infrastructure maintenance issues, and the limited presence of local police in some neighbourhoods. Other reasons for citizen complaints include the condition of pavements and roads, as well as the scarcity of trees and the maintenance of existing ones.

From the Socialist Municipal Group, its spokesperson in this commission, Councillor Victoria Melgosa, stated that the data "highlight shortcomings affecting the daily lives of Alicante residents" and urged the government team to "address these demands and take measures to improve municipal management."

Melgosa expressed that they hope "the report does not remain a mere statistical compilation" and urged the government team to act "by listening to the citizens and correcting the identified deficiencies."
