The appeal by Atlético de Madrid against the sanction imposed by the Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) following the incidents of the Madrid derby against Real Madrid, which consisted of the partial closure of the south stand for three matches, has resulted in the reduction to a single match. Additionally, the fine has been reduced to 3,000 euros, whereas the initial resolution was 45,000 euros.

In its defense, the club presided over by Enrique Cerezo argued that it publicly condemned the events, acted swiftly, and has already expelled four identified members involved in throwing objects at Courtois. One of them was found with a knife inside the stadium.

From the Metropolitano, they understand that "the unacceptable behavior of a few cannot result in such a disproportionate punishment for a large majority who committed no offense." They maintain that around 8,000 people attend each match in that area of the stadium and that, even with the closure of the lower part of the South Stand, the innocent would suffer for the guilty. Ultimately, the ultras' stand will only be empty for one match, next Sunday's game against Leganés.
