A Colourful New Pavement Unveiled at Alicante's Principal Theatre

The city of Alicante has regained full view of the facade of the Principal Theatre. After a week of pavement works, the barriers in front of the coliseum's entrance have been removed, revealing a renewed pavement.

These works lasted just over a week, and locals are now walking on the new pavement, which features various shades of colour.

Thus, the new entrance to Alicante's Principal Theatre - in terms of public space, as the rehabilitation of the building is still awaited - offers an eye-catching feature for visitors, with cobblestones forming a new mosaic.

With reddish and yellowish tones, the renewed pavement of Alicante's Principal Theatre takes the shape of quadrilaterals. It is by no means comparable to the style of the Explanada mosaics, but it gives a fresh look to this promenade area alongside the Constitution Avenue.

Under the columns, these new tones have remained hidden in recent days. With the unveiling, citizens and tourists now stroll in front of the imposing coliseum, while others take the opportunity to photograph communions.

Work continues on one of the sides of Alicante's Principal Theatre, which awaits its rehabilitation. The City Council announced last December the start of procedures for this, pending the new master plan for the upcoming works.

This new step in the history of the Alicante coliseum comes five years after the initial intention, back in 2018. The agreement with Banco Sabadell to contribute its share - 1.5 million euros - has allowed the rehabilitation works to be reactivated.

The renovation has a budget of three million euros and includes a significant intervention on the exterior of the building, as well as the replacement of the seats.

Following the unblocking of these works, it was announced that the intervention would be carried out during this summer, the summer of 2025. However, municipal sources stress not to give a specific date and indicate that they will be carried out when they least affect the coliseum's operation.
