Cole Palmer entered the Premier League history books this Saturday. Never before had a player scored four goals in the first half of a match, a feat that the Wythenshawe footballer achieved with the ease with which he has entered the top tier of English football. Since joining Chelsea last season, he has definitively exploded, becoming a magnet for goals and dazzling the football world. He is the brightest star in the Blue project, a player Guardiola let go and who is now the most decisive footballer on the islands.

This Saturday, he did something he has been doing regularly. Against Brighton, he scored goals of all kinds. He did it by taking advantage of a gift from Nicolas Jackson, from a penalty, with a sensational free kick to the top corner, and in a one-on-one situation, evading the rival goalkeeper's exit. Cole Palmer has it all and has managed to fit into a Chelsea team where he even had to deal with lean times last season. He finished the season with 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 matches across all competitions, figures that did not earn him the Premier League MVP award, which went to Phil Foden, but did ensure that his move to Chelsea from Manchester City was no longer in question.

That first season with the Blues has been fueled by his great start this term. After four goals against Brighton, he can boast of being the most decisive player in the Premier League since he decided to change clubs. He has contributed to 43 goals, including both goals and assists, leading a list that includes luminaries like Erling Haaland (42), Mohamed Salah (36), Ollie Watkins (36), Son Heung Min (31), and Bukayo Saka (31). None are on par with a player who, at 22 years old, is destined to lead the Three Lions in upcoming World Cups and European Championships and who also exudes confidence. "Can you pose counting to three in case you score a hat trick?" they asked him at Chelsea's Media Day before the season started. Cole Palmer, without hesitation, replied, "What if I score four?" His premonition came true in just 45 minutes of history against Brighton.

Guardiola's thorn

Cole Palmer shines at Chelsea, and Manchester City fans still don't understand how his talent slipped away from the 'skyblue' club. It happened in the summer of 2023 when the Englishman, tired of not having opportunities with Pep Guardiola, chose to change clubs and join one where he could have more prominence. "He is an exceptional player, and we knew that when he was here. I didn't give him the minutes he perhaps deserved, and now he's at Chelsea. I completely understand it. He's a shy boy with a lot of potential. He had been asking to leave for two seasons. I told him to stay, but he said no; he wanted to go. What were we going to do?" said Guardiola last season when asked about the attacker. Today his talent could fit into Manchester City but it is Enzo Maresca who enjoys one of the players destined to dominate European football over the next decade. His explosion in English football is already unstoppable, and at Chelsea, they are rubbing their hands with a signing that they have finally got right.
