Over the weekend, a drastic change in weather is expected. A cold air mass will reach the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, causing a significant drop in temperatures, as explained by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
From Friday, this meteorological phenomenon will lead to a temperature drop, bringing snow back to the peaks of the Alicante province, where frost will also be recorded in inland areas, with sub-zero temperatures.

Friday is expected to be the coldest day. Aemet warns that this day "will be very cold in the inland peninsula and frosts will intensify over the weekend." Snow is expected above 1,000 meters, especially on Friday afternoon, when showers are forecast.
Thus, the sunny weather currently prevailing in the province of Alicante will change to a much more wintry one from the weekend, with cloudier skies and minimum temperatures below three degrees in the mountainous areas, while other inland areas, such as Villena, expect sub-zero temperatures at the start of the weekend.

Aemet predicts "a colder than normal week for this time of year, with anomalies of one to three degrees below the average in the province." In fact, several municipalities have recorded low temperatures in recent days, reaching as low as -7 degrees in Villena.
According to data from the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet), other localities have also experienced very low minimums, such as Xixona with -5.7 degrees or Pinoso, also below -5 degrees. The mountainous areas of Alicante have also woken up to sub-zero temperatures.
Conversely, the coast has the best forecasts for this cold week. Maximum temperatures of over 16 degrees are expected in Alicante, Xàbia, Dènia, or Altea, among other coastal municipalities. This situation contrasts with the inland towns, such as Confrides or l'Orxa, which have recorded the "lowest maximum" of the province with three degrees.
